parasympathetic - facial glands except parotid gland
splits into 5 different areas: temporal zygomatic buccal cervical mandibular
UMN and LMN signs and examples
UMN:
forehead spared
stroke, tumour
LMN:
loss of sensation in whole face
Bell’s palsy, Ramsay Hunter Syndrome, Lymes Disease
Bell’s palsy
LMN lesion
post-auricular pain
altered taste
increased sensitivity to noise
treat with prednisolone and artificial eye drops
Ramsay Hunter Syndrome
caused by HZV
facial nerve palsy signs
rash around ears
treat with aciclovir and prednisolone
Lymes Disease
caused by burgodefori
facial nerve palsy signs
history of being in grass
target sign on body
unwell
treat with doxycycline
target sign on body can be a clinical diagnosis
