How do you differentiate hand written I and 1?
Letter I has bars above and below
Number 1 is a straight line
How do you differentiate hand written Z and 2?
Letter Z has a horizontal line through the middle
Number 2 has no change
How do you differentiate hand written S and 5?
Letter S is underlined
Number 5 has no change
How do you differentiate hand written O and 0?
Letter O has no change
Number 0 has a diagonal line through it
Identify the clearance abbreviations:
D, F, H, PD, V, X
Cleared to: D - depart the fix, F - to the fix,
H - to hold, PD - descend pilot’s discretion
V - over the fix, X - to cross
Identify the approach clearance abbreviation: BC, CT, VA, VR
BC - back course, CT - contact, VR - VOR,
VA - visual
Identify the symbols: up arrow, down arrow, sideways arrow
up arrow - climb and maintain
down arrow - descend and maintain
sideways arrow - cruise
Identify the symbols: M with arrow through it, equal sign with hook on bottom, >, <
M with arrow through it - maintain
equal sign with hook - until joining
> - Before, < - After
Identify the symbols: red underline of altitude, /, overlined down arrow, underlined up arrow
red underline of altitude - wrong for direction
/ - until
overlined down arrow - at or below
underlined up arrow - at or above
Identify the symbols: interlocked C & L, check mark by altitude, red circle around data
interlocked C & L - cancel
check mark by altitude - level
red circle around data - data forwarded
Identify the symbols: C, R, R with / over it,
R with X over it
C - contact, R - radar contact
R with X over it - radar contact lost
R with / over it - radar service terminated
Identify the symbols: RV, R circled in black, red E, red W
RV - radar vector (write vector above V)
R circled in black - radar handoff
red E - Emergency, red W - Warning
What marking do you use to delete an item?
Black X through it for 1) altitude arrows or 2) altitude is wrong
Black line through for other items
What does a single line through an altitude mean?
Aircraft has reported out of that altitude
