How many stages in General Adaptation Syndrome(GAS)
Can have up to three stages
GAS Stage 1
Alarm> Adrenaline, blood goes to important parts of the body, and heightens abilities
ex. fight/flight
GAS Stage 2
Resistance> parasympathetic nervous system
ex. Rest and Digest
GAS Stage 3
Exhaustion> ineffective coping
Local Adaption Syndrome(LAS)
- Localized body response
-Involves specific body part
-Short-term attempt to restore homeostasis
General Adaption Syndrome
-Nonspecific responses all people share to stress
-Involves the whole body
-Three Stages
Reflex Pain Response (part of LAS)
-Protective reflex
-Involuntary, predictable
-pain and sensory impulses from the spinal cord
Inflammatory Response (part of LAS)
-Local reaction to cell injury
-Promote healing
-Adaptative mechanisms to protect body and promote healing
-Classic symptoms: heat, pain, swelling, redness
