Treponenema pallidum - spirochete
Primary Syphilis:
Painless chancre, lymphadenopathy, resolves in 4-6 weeks
Secondary Syphilis:
(weeks-months): non-puritic diffuse rash on body (doesn’t spare palms/soles), Condyloma Lata, mucous patch, flu symptoms
Tertiary Syphilis:
(15-20 years): CNS symptoms; gummatous syphilis, every organ infected.
Screening tests for Syphilis:
RPR / VRDL
Confirmatory tests for Syphilis:
FTA-ABS or MHA-TP

Haemophilus ducreyi (gram negative rod)

PAINFUL vesicles, soft ulcer w/ necrotic base, weepy, one-sided lymphadenopathy

1) Small ulcer @ inoculation site that heals in days, 2) swelling and inflammation of inguinal and femoral lymph nodes, 3) swelling, anal fistulas / scarring; “groove sign” - lymph nodes swelling around inguinal ligament
