Chlamydia
Occurs in both genders under 25 years
Transmitted via vaginal or anal sex
Bacteria that may develop into infection if left untreated
Infection causes inflammation of epididymis in males and may lead to infertility, eye infection or arthiritis in females
Antibiotics may be used as treatment
Gonorrhoea
Affects mucous membranes of reproductive and excretory systems
In males causes inflammation of urethra
In females it can spread to fallopian tubes causing infertility, and if children are born they can be born with an eye infection leading to blindness
Syphilis
Sores develop on sexual organs but heal after 3-8 weeks
After a few weeks a secondary stage appears with multiple symptoms including rashes, lasting for about 2 years
After a latent stage a minority of individuals may lapse into a tertiary stage 5-40 years after initial infection including symptoms such as blindness or insanity
Genital herpes
Two Types
Type 1 produces sores on lips and sometimes genitals
Type 2 produces blisters on sexual organs
Can be transferred to newborn resulting in malformations
Genital warts
Warts found on sexual organs
Can be passed on to a neonate
HIV
Human Immunodeficiency virus
Virus that can cause AIDS (Auto immune deficiency) by affecting T-lymphocytes
AIDS disables immune system leaving body susceptible to infection to any microorganisms
Pubic lice and scabies
Insects/mites which cause intense itching in genital area
Can be treated by a lotion applied to skin killing the insect/mite and their eggs
