What are the three parts of a sternum
The Manubrium, the body (Mesosternum) and Xiphoid process
What is the Manubrium
This is the thickest squarest part of the sternum found on the top, top of the tie
What is the body (mesosternum)
Long piece of bone - Body of the tie
What is the Xiphoid process
This is the cartilaginous section at the lower end of the sternum
Where is the jugular notch of the manubrium
This is the midline notch on the top or superior border
What are the clavicular notches of the manubrium
These are the dips found on both sides of the jugular notch
Where are the notches for the first ribs on manubrium
This will be the first of the costal notches along the side by the join of the manubrium and the body
Where is the sternal angle
This is the angle formed between the fused manubrium and the corpus sterni
What is the corpus sterni
This is the central part of the body
Where are the notches for the ribs 2-7
These are the costal notches found along the side of the body
How would you orientate the sternum
The anterior surface is rougher than the smooth concave posterior surface
