Pelvis Flashcards
Name the parts of the pelvis
The two halves are the os coxae, then they are split into Ilium, Ischium and Pubis
What is the Illium
This is the thin blade like portion superior to the hip socket
What is the Ischium
This is the massive blunt posteroinferior part that the bone sits on
What is the pubis
This is the anteroinferior part of the bone that touches it’s opposite at the midline
Where is the arcuate line
This is on the Ilium the line above the notch
Where is the Iliac fossa
Smooth hollow on the medial surface of the iliac blade
Where is the Auricular surface
The bumpy surface above the notch used for aging
What is the Iliac crest
Big curved edge
Where is the anterior inferior and superior iliac spine
The inferior is the blunt projection on the anterior border of the os coxae above the acetabulum, the superior on the anterior end of the crest above the inferior
Where is the posterior superior and inferior iliac spine
The inferior is a sharp projection on the bottom of the auricular surface and the superior is above this at the end of the crest
What is the Iliac tubercle
This is the thickening or bumps along the crest
Where is the Iliac tuberosity
This is the rough surface next to the auricular surface
What is the Acetabulum
Notch or hole for the socket of the hip
What is the great sciatic notch
This is the hook or curve in-between the auricular surface and Ischium
Where is the obturator foramen
The large foramen on the Ischium
Where is the Ischial tuberosity
This is the blunt rough corner of the os coxae opposite to the pubic symphysis
Where is the lesser sciatic notch
This is under the sciatic notch under the ischial spine
Where is the ischial spine
This is the bump between the greater and lesser sciatic notch
Where is the pubic symphysis
This is on the midline surface where the two os coxae meet, used for sexing
Where is the pubic tubercle
On the top of the pubic symphysis
What is the ischio-pubic ramus
This is the thin flat strip of bone connection the pubis to the ischium
What is the Ilio-pubic ramus
This connects the pubis to the ilium at the acetabulum
How would we side os coxae
The Pubis would be anterior, can do the hand method
