Femur Flashcards
Which is the proximal end
This is the end with the head (ball)
Which is the distal end
This is the end which looks like it has two parts - Epicondyle
What is the head
This is the most proximal end, ball shape
Where is the neck
Branch of bone under the head
What is the Fovea capitis
This is the hole on the side of the head
What is the greater and lesser trochanter
This is the large blunt prominence on the proximal end next to the head, the lesser is the tubercle under the head and greater trochanter
What is the gluteal tuberosity
This is the long wide feature that expands from the base of the greater trochanter
What is the intertrochanteric line
Roughened line that passes between the lesser and greater trochanters on the base of the neck of the femur
What is the intertrochanteric crest
This is the elevated line on the posterior surface on the proximal end between the greater and lesser trochanters
Where is the trochanteric fossa
Dip in the wall of the greater trochanter
Where is the linea aspera
This is a elevated ridge that runs along the posterior shaft and splits into two at the end
What is the spiral line
Connects to the intertrochanteric line, down from the lesser trochanter
Where is the patella surface
This is on the distal end on the anterior surface between the condyles
Where is the popliteal surface
This is wide and flat surface on the distal end, it is bounded by the condyles
What are the medial and lateral condyle and epicondyle
Lateral is on the left and this is straighter in shape and the medial is on the right and is more curved in shape
