Statistics Flashcards
Statistics measures…?
The differences and relationships between sets of data. Allows us to calculate if differences are due to chance or IV.
Most variations in a population…
Fall in a normal frequency curve (bell curve).
Standard deviation is
The measure of how data is spread out the mean.
A LOW s.d. means that there is a LOW diff in variation from the mean. (Clustered tg)
A HIGH s.d. means theres is a HIGH diff in variation from the mean. (Spread out)
Range is
The measure of the spread of data.
Range = Highest - Lowest
Mean is
The average
Median is
The middle number
Mode is
The most common number that appears
Error/Uncertainty bars are…
The graphic representation of the variability of data.
Error/Uncertainty bars do what?
- Show measurement error
- The range of data
- The S.D. on a graph
What does a T-Test do?
Compares TWO sets of data and see if any difference between them is due to chance or IV. Using mean, s.d., and sample size.
What is p?
Tells us the PROBABILITY that the difference is due to chance, using a chart developed from huge data.
Due to chance, p=?
NOT SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE
p is more than 5%.
Due to IV, p=?
SIGNIFICANT
p is less than or equal to 5%.
What percent of the population lies within +/- 1 S.D. from the mean?
68%
What percent of the population lies within +/- 2 S.D. from the mean?
95%
