What is a statement?

A

A statement is a formal account of facts and can be either written or oral.

What do we do after interviewing the victim or witness?

A

We record their account of the facts

We seek their corroboration that the account is true and correct to the best of their knowledge.

This is done by getting them to sign the statement at the end.

A

ADVOKATE

What is ADVOKATE?

A

A =Amount of time witness had suspect in view.
D = Distance between witness and suspect
V = Visibility, the time of the day, etc.
O = Obstructions in the view of the witness
K = Known or seen the suspect before
A = Any particular reason to remember the suspect
T = Time lapse since the witness saw the suspect
E = Error or material discrepancy between the first & subsequent accounts
