what happens in the cognitive stage of learning?

A

the verbal motor stage
gathering of information.
a performer understands what needs to be done.
often uses trail and error.
successful movements can be reinforced by success or by a coach.
need to understand failure in order to avoid repeating.
use of demonstrations are good at this stage.
relevant cues are highlighted by the teacher and recognised by the performer.

what happens in the associative stage of learning?

A

the motor stage
putting actions together
when a performer practices what needs to be done
comparing or associating movements produced with a mental image.
feedback is important in this stage.
more subtle cues recognised by the performer
motor programmes are formed but not yet automatic

A

the automatic stage
skills are becoming almost automatic
very little conscious thought
allows players to concentrate more on peripheral strategies and tactics
stored in long term memory
short reaction time
