SS3. ADH Flashcards
1
Q
What does ADH stand for and what does it consist of?
A
Anti-diuretic hormone. It’s a small peptide hormone that wants to increase blood pressure.
2
Q
What are targets of ADH?
A
1) Smooth muscles –> vasoconstriction, resulting in increased resistance and higher bp.
2) Kidney –> increased uptake of water, resulting in increased stroke volume (arterial pressure goes up)
3
Q
How does ADH work in the collecting duct cells?
A
Aquaporine is found in collecting duct. ADH flows through the blood, and fuse the aquaporines with cell wall, allowing H2O to move into the blood. Volume of bloed goes up, and stroke volume goes up, too.
