SS2. Cardio vascular system - Blood vessels Flashcards
What layers does the bloodvessel consist of?
Tunica intima
Tunica Media
Tunica externa/adventia
What is the tunica intima?
Basement membrane and endothelial cells together
What is the tunica media?
Layer of smooth muscle cells
What is the Tunica externa/adventia?
A layer of proteins with a lot of collagen. The vasa fvasorum (blood vessels on blood vessels) and nerve ending can be found.
How are large/middle artereis build up?
Has same tunica intima as a vessel.
Large unica media layer with elastin to make them withstand pressure.
Tunica externa
How are arterioles build up?
Small tunica intima, large tunica media with a lot of muscle to create resistance.
Tunica externa.
How are capillaries build up?
Unique.
Has a lumen, but only has 1 cell around them instead of layers.
What pressure and volume do arteries have?
High pressure, low volume (~15%)
What pressure and volume do veins have?
Low pressure, high volume (~65%)
