SS1. Hydrostatic v.s. Oncotic Pressure Flashcards
1
Q
What are the 2 starling forces?
A
Hydrostatic pressure (Ph) and oncotic pressure (Pi)
2
Q
What is hydrostatic pressure?
A
Pressure inside a vessel that wants to push fluid out.
3
Q
What is oncotic pressure?
A
The pressure that wants to pull H2O back into the capillaries. Little protein inside vessel, H2O is pushed out.
4
Q
What is diffusion?
A
Movement of solutes
5
Q
What is osmosis?
A
Movements of solvents (H2O) from low to high concentrations.
