SQ- Radiation Monitoring System Flashcards
What is the purpose of the Radiation Monitoring system?
Monitors radiation levels of designated systems and areas of the plant during all modes of plant operation.
What are the three subsystems of SQ?
Safety Ralated Radiation Monitoring System (SRMS)
Post Accident Radiation Monitoring System (PAMS)
Digital Radiation Monitoring System (DRMS)
What is the purpose of safety related monitors (SRMS)?
Provides actuation signals for the ESF isolation systems.
Tech spec related monitoring and control functions.
Contains only quality class Q radiation monitors.
What is the purpose of Post-Accident Monitors (PAMS)?
Provides long term accident and post accident monitoring of effluent gases and particulates for condenser effluent and plant vent.
Informs of abnormal radiation increases in containment , main steam line, control room and other plant areas.
Consists of quality class QAG monitors.
What is the purpose of the digital radiation monitoring system (DRMS)?
Represents the balance of the radiation monitoring system
Provides information on process, effluent, and area radiation levels. Consists of quality class QAG monitors.
What is the auto function associated with Containment Building Atmosphere Monitor, Channel “B” (CBB) SQB-RU-1?
Auto shut to isolate the monitor from press and temp transients following a (LOCA). The valves close on a (CIAS).
What is the auto function associated with Control Room Ventilation Intake Monitors, (CRVA) SQA-RU-29 and (CRVB) SQB-RU-30
Monitor the noble gas concentrations in the control room air intake
On hi-hi alarm the CR essential filtration units a CREFAS is initiated.
What is the auto function associated with Power Access Purge Area Monitors, SQA-RU-37 (PAPA) and SQB-RU-38 (PAPB)?
Monitor the ducts for purged airborne radioactivity concentrations that could result in an offsite dose.
On a hi-hi alarm CPIAS actuated.
This signal cross trips with CREFAS.
What is the auto function associated with Fuel Building Ventilation Exhaust Monitor, (FBLR) SQB-RU-145?
On high-high alarm normal fuel bldg vent isolated, essential vent initiated FBEVAS actuated
This signal cross-trips with CREFAS.
What is the auto function associated with Fuel Pool Area Monitor (FPAA) SQA-RU-31?
Monitors radiation levels on the fuel pool area of the fuel bldg.
On high-high alarm normal fuel bldg vent isolated, fuel bldg essential vent starts
FBEVAS actuated
This signal cross-trips with CREFAS.
What is the auto function associated with Condenser Vacuum Pump/Gland Seal Exhaust Monitor, (CVSE) SQN-RU-141?
Pumps and gland seal condenser remove gases from the secondary.
Hi alarm on RU-141A will initiate air removal post filter system.
RU-141B provides an alarm function only.
What is the auto function associated with Auxiliary Steam Condensate Receiver Tank Inlet Monitor (RTI) SQN-RU-7?
Aux Steam returning from BAC, LRS evaporator, and gas stripper are monitored before they leave the receiver tank.
Hi alarm means radioactive leakage into a component or improper op.
Hi Hi alarm diverts condensate to LRS
What is the auto function associated with Waste Gas Decay Tank Monitor (WGDT) SQN-RU-12?
Monitor the gross beta radioactivity level in the decay tank discharge header.
Hi alarm means abnormal op condition
Hi Hi alarm isolates the decay tank discharge header.
What is the normal operation of the radiation monitoring system?
SQ system is operational during all modes of plant operation.
Monitors are calibrated at least every 18 months.
Tech Spec monitors are calibrated weekly, monthly, and quarterly.
How will the loss of the radiation monitoring system impact the operation of the plant?
Portions of the radiation monitoring system are tech. spec. related, and as such may require action to be taken if a monitor becomes inoperable.
