RD-Radioactive Drains Flashcards
What is the purpose of the Radioactive Drains system?
Collects and transports noncorrosive, radioactive, or potentially radioactive liquid wastes from equipment and floor drains.
Which areas have radiactive drains?
- Containment Building
- Auxiliary Building
- Fuel Building
- Radwaste Building
- Holdup Tank Area
- Main Steam Support Structure
- Decontamination and Laundry Facility (Unit 1 only)
What areas does the Radioactive Drain system detect leakage from?
- Reactor Coolant system
- Refueling Pool
- ESF Equipment
- Spent Fuel Pool
Where do the Radioactive drain systems flow?
They are pumped to Liquid Radwaste system for processing.
Which systems does Radioactive Drains receive waste from?
RC, SI, CH, PC, HC, HA, HR, HF, DW, SG, FW, AF (aux feedwater), GR (gaseous radwaste), EC, CP (containment purge system), LR (liquid radwaste), SR/RF (solid radwaste and raioactive filter handling system), NC, RL (decontamination system), SE (Ex-core neutron monitoring system)
What is the purpose of the reactor cavity sump/pump?
Collects leakage and condensate from the Reactor Cavity and Excore Instrumentation. 520 gallons would require 2 pumps to be running, 30 gpm per, 100% cap. Vented to containment bldg atmosphere.
What is the purpose of the Containment East and West Sumps/Pumps?
Leakage of water and condensed liquid from steam in containment are collected and routed to the Containment East/West Radwaste Sumps.
390 gal, 1 pump per, 100% cap
What does the west sump receive effluent from?
- floor drains
- equipment drains
- Refueling Pool
- Refueling Pool liner plate leak detector compartment.
What does the east sump receive effluent from?
- One is a 4-inch stainless steel penetration receiving effluent from
o floor Drains
o equipment Drains
o Refueling Pool - The Second Is A 2-1/2 Inch Stainless Steel Penetration Receiving Effluent from the Reactor Cavity Sump Pumps.
What does Tech Spec 3.4.16 state?
Both of the following RCS leakage detection instrumentation shall be OPERABLE:
a. One Containment Sump monitor
b. One Containment atmosphere radioactivity monitor (gaseous and particulate).
Where do containment radwaste sump pumps send water?
Liquid Radwaste TDS (total dissolved solids) Holdup Tanks.
What does the AO take rounds on daily for the Containment Sump?
Sump run time.
What is the purpose of the ESF Sumps?
Drainage system for the rooms containing redundant ESF equipment , utilize independent drain trains (train A and train B), so that flooding of the redundant ESF rooms of one train will not jeopardize the operation of the remaining train of redundant ESF equipment.
How many separate penetrations does each train specific and separate sump have?
5 penetrations
Shutdown Cooling HX room
Containment Spray Pump room
HPSI Room
LPSI Room
Pipe Chase area room
What is the purpose of the ESF pumps?
Transfer the ESF Sump contents to the Liquid Radwaste TDS Holdup Tanks.
100% cap, 50gpm, lubricated by demineralized water
What is the purpose of Non-ESF Sump?
For the Non-ESF equipment which empties into a separate sump in the Auxiliary building and vents to auxiliary exhaust.
