18
Q

What is the purpose of the Distillate Discharge and Recycle valves LV-289Q and LV-289P?

A

Flow from distillate cooler is constantly monitored for purity. If conductivity too high LV-289Q will close and LV-289P will open sending the flow to the recycle path until conductivity goes back down. This is automatic action.

26
Q

How do we process the CVCS HUT water?

A

When a hi alarm @17ft actuates, then the Boric Acid Concentrator (BAC) is started up to begin processing the HUT contents.
After the BAC contents are returned to the CVCS HUT until chemistry happy.
The water is then sent to the Refueling Water Tank.

27
Q

What is the purpose of the CVCS HUT pumps?

A
  1. Recirculate to prevent boron from settling & coming out of solution
    2.Transfer from CVCS HUT to the BAC for processing to raise the boron concentrate.
    3.Transfer from CVCS Hut to the Refueling Water Tank following processing by the BAC.
28

A
  • Distillate Release Mode
    o Releases the vapor to atmosphere to control water inventory and/or release tritium from the system
  • Water Mode
    o Condenses the vapor into a distillate and provides it as makeup to the Reactor Makeup Water Tank if the tritium concentration is low enough.
  • Recirculation Mode
    o Condenses the vapor into a distillate and recirculates it to the inlet of the system.
35
Q

What is the purpose of BAC concentrator pumps?

A

Provide the process fluid (concentrate) flow through the BAC Heater and:
* into the Flash Tank.
* through the Concentrate Cooler.

36
Q

A

Cooled distillate (or Reactor Makeup Water) is provided for inter-seal cooling and flushing to prolong seal life.

38
Q

What is the power supply for the Concentrator Pumps?

A

NH

39
Q

What is the purpose of the Boric Acid Concentrate Heater?

A

Adds thermal energy to the recirculating concentrate.

40
Q

What is Aux steam used for in the BAC concentrate heater?

A
  • Concentrate directed to the BAC Flash Tank is heated to ~240ºF.
  • Concentrate directed to the Concentrate Transfer Pumps drains out of the Heater before passing through the tubes.
41
Q

What is the pupose of the Boric Acid Flash Tank?

A

Allows some of the heated concentrate to flash to a vapor.

42
Q

What is the design of the Boric Acid Flash Tank?

A

Concentrate heated to ~240°F enters the Flash Tank through a tangential nozzle onto an inverted, truncated, conical surface. This geometry imparts a swirling motion to the concentrate. Boiling occurs due to the reduced pressure within the Flash Tank. The swirling motion provides vapor/moisture separation.

43
Q

What is the purpose of the condensate transfer pumps?

A

Provide flow from the Heater through the Concentrate Cooler to:
* Concentrator Pump suction
* CVCS Holdup Tank
* LRS Concentrate Monitor Tanks

45
Q

What automatic action is associated with the BAC Concentrate Transfer Pumps?

A

The Concentrate Transfer Pumps trip on low Heater level to protect them from cavitation.

46
Q

What is the power supply for the Concentrate Transfer Pumps?

A

NH

47
Q
