CH-Boric Acid Reclamation System Flashcards
What is the purpose of the Boric Acid Reclamation subsystem?
Designed for separation of the process fluid (borated water from the CVCS HUT) into a distillate with less than 10 ppm total dissolved solids and a concentrate.
Where do we reuse concentrate?
In the borated Refueling Water Tank.
Where do we reuse distillate?
In the Reactor Makeup Water Tank
Where does the vapor release?
to atmosphere
What normally drains to the CVCS HUT?
The Radioactive Collection, Processing, and Storage subsystem, and Volume Control Tank Divert.
How many CVCS HUT Pumps are normally running and why?
1 of 2 normally running so that boron doesn’t come out of solution.
Where does the Process Feed Valve CHN-LV-287 connect to?
CVCS HUT > CVCS HUT pump > Flash Tank
What is the flow path for the condensate loop?
Concentrator Pumps > Concentrate Heater > Flash Tank
A small portion leaves the Heater and goes to the Concentrate Transfer Pumps for concentrate cooling and recirc
What is the heat source for the concentrate heat exchanger?
Auxiliary steam- when the steam leaves the HX it goes to the Aux steam condensate receiver tank.
What is the flash tank?
Heated concentrate 240°F enters the Flash Tank through a nozzle onto an inverted conical surface.
Some flashes to steam and goes to the Vapor Separator.
The remaining concentrate is returned to the pump suction.
What is the path for concentrate cooling and recirculation?
Heater > Concentrate Cooler, Nuclear Cooling Water (NC) cools concentrate.
How does concentrate get back to the CVCS HUT after the concentrate cooler?
Flows through Density Transmitter DT-295 that doesn’t work in any Unit. Operators manually control Flow Control Valve DV-295 to recirculate ~ 10 gpm of cooled concentrate back to the CVCS Holdup Tank through CHN-V001.
What is the vapor separator?
Vapor from the Flash Tank enters the bottom of the Vapor Separator and passes up through three mist eliminators to remove any entrained moisture.
What is the vapor separator discharge?
Normal Op-Some vapor is sent to Radwaste Building HVAC Exhaust and Plant Vent to atmosphere. This is done to reduce tritium concentration and control inventory.
What component helps to maintain the temperature and pressure in the BAC?
PCV-993 Distillate Condenser Valve
Where do the distillate pumps take suction from?
distillate sumps
How do we cool the phase changed liquid that comes out of the distillate condenser?
It goes through Distillate Cooler before it goes to the pumps to be used for cooling and flushing the BAC system.
What is the purpose of the Distillate Discharge and Recycle valves LV-289Q and LV-289P?
Flow from distillate cooler is constantly monitored for purity. If conductivity too high LV-289Q will close and LV-289P will open sending the flow to the recycle path until conductivity goes back down. This is automatic action.
What is a Distillate Flush?
When there is adequate level in the Distillate Condenser, some is supplied back to the BAC components:
* Vapor Separator for back flushing the bottom two mist eliminators
* BAC Pump seals for flushing and cooling:
o Concentrator Pumps
o Concentrate Transfer Pumps
o Distillate Pumps
* Flash Tank level transmitters for flushing
* Concentrate Cooler discharge line for flushing.
What is the makeup water if the Distillate Condenser is low level?
Reactor Makeup Water (clean water)
What determines the rate of evaporation and therefore, establishes the concentrator processing rate?
Auxiliary Steam
What helps the keep the BAC from going into a vacuum?
Low Pressure Nitrogen
What is the purpose of the CVCS HUT?
Provides holdup capacity for:
* for Volume Control Tank (VCT) diversion upon high level in the VCT.
* to allow recovery of various system drains, reliefs, and leakage collected in the Reactor Drain Tank (RDT) and Equipment Drain Tank (EDT).
