Q

What modification did we make to SP for flow margin recovery?

A

We have a bypass valve that is normally locked closed. When a LOCA is initiated we will run water straight into pond and bypass spray nozzle for the 1st 6 days. After we close the valve.

24
Q

What are the spray pond pump post-start checks?

A

Motor upper & lower bearing oil level, motor/pump coupling, pump house exhaust fan running.

25
Q

What Engineered Safety Features Actuation System Signals for the spray pond pumps to automatically start?

A

DG start, SIAS, CSAS, CRVIAS, CREFAS, AFAS 1, AFAS 2, and a LOP

26
Q

What is the spray pond feed and bleed process?

A

Helps to remove Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)

27
Q

What are the main and backup water sources for the Spray Ponds?

A

Domestic Water (DS)-has more calcium by less biological activity. (29 days/mo)
Cooling Tower Makeup and Blowdown (TB)-less calcium, but more biological activity (1day/mo)

28
Q

How many days can the Spray Ponds supply safe shutdown flow?

A

26 days

29
Q

Where does the bleed water from the Spray Ponds go?

A

Circulating Water Intake Canal (CW) as directed by chemistry department.

30
Q

What is the purpose of the Spray Pond Filter Pumps?

A

Circulated water through the spray pond filtration and chemical addition subsystems.

31
Q

What is the design of the Spray Pond Filter Pump?

A

Horizontal CP 1200 GPM at 150 psig located above the level of the spray pond. They are self primed b4 start. Start/Stop handswitch. Low level in associated pond will auto stop the pump.

32
Q

What is the purpose of the Spray Pond Filters?

A

Remove particulate from the spray ponds.

33
Q

What is the design of the Spray Pond Filters?

A

Three, 50% capacity, sand & anthracite, 2 maintained in service. Most of the spray pond filter pumps discharge goes to the spray pond filter head tank.

34
Q

What are the two main modes of the Spray Pond Filters?

A

Filtraton: straining particulates through the granular media filter bed.
Cleaning (backwashing): When predetermined d/p is reached filtration stops and an auto backwash occurs. Backwash goes to spray pond backwash sump.

35
Q

What is the function of the air blower in the spray ponds?

A

Pneumatically op valves control the mode of operation for each filter.
Adds air to scour filter media in cleaning mode.

36
Q

What is the purpose of the Spray Pond Backwash Sumps and Pumps?

A

They pumps and empty from either SP overflow via the SP weir Or the Sp Filter Backwash.

37
Q

What is the design of the SP Backwash Sumps?

A

Adjacent to the each Essential Spray Pond to receive overflow.

38
Q

What is the design of the SP Backwash Pumps?

A

Only 1/2 lined to power (NH) manually swtch at MCC, vertical, CP, wet-pit, mounted in ea backwash sump, 1000 gpm, discharged to SP Bleed Line to CW Canal.

39
Q

How is the SP Backwash Sump Pumps Controlled?

A

Auto-auto start on hi level in sump auto stop on lo
Stop-the pump will not start
Start-pump will run an not turn itself off at lo level.

40
Q

What is the purpose of the SP Corrosion Test Racks?

A

Monitor the corrosive effect of the spray pond water on the piping and HX throughout the flow path.

41
Q

What is the design of the SP Corrosion Test Racks?

A

Installed in discharge of the SP pump, and SP filter pump. Coupons made of materials that mimic piping checked to estimate quality of components in the flow path.

42
Q

What is the purpose of the Spray Pond Crosstie Valves?

A

Provide isolation between ‘A’ and ‘B’ ponds. During single pond operation tie can be opened for long term cooling creating the UHS.

43
Q

What is the design of the Spray Pond Crosstie Valves?

A

10” butterfly , op by reach rods, normally locked closed to keep SP independent. In a LOCA and loss of makeup water 1) if 2 trains SDC in service one must be shutdown. 2) at least 1 S crosstie valves must be open.

44
Q

What is the minimum level the SP can be before we are outside of Tech Specs?

A

94 feet (92’ 6” to bottom + 1’ 6” minimum pump op level)

45
Q

How will the loss of the Spray Pond system impact the op of the plant?

A

SP is safety related if we lose 1 or 2 trains we would have to shutdown due to tech specs. If the DG running it would overheat. Full load 2.6 mins, unloaded 15 mins. Also SDC and Essentail Chilled Water (EC) would be unavailable.

46
Q

What powers Spray Pond Pumps?

A

PB 4.16 kV

47
Q

What powers Spray Pond House Exhaust Fans?

A

PH Class 480 VAC MCC

48
Q

What powers SP Pump Motor Space Heater, SP Filter Pumps, SP Filter Air Blower, SP Backwash Sump Pumps?

A

NH Non Class 480 VAC MCC

49
Q

What chemical does water resources pump into the Spray Ponds?

A

Sodium Hypochlorite via the hypo header

50
Q

Where does the Spray Pond Filter Backwash Sump Pumps and Spray Pond Blowdown line discharge?

A

Circulating Water (CW)

51
Q

What does the Spray Pond cool in the DG?

A

When the DG running SP cools air intercoolers, jacket water HX, and LO HX.

52
Q

What is the primary makeup water source to the Spray Ponds?

A

Domestic Water (DS) usually supplies makeup 29 days out of the month.

53
Q

What is the cooling source for EWHX?

A

Spray Pond Pumps supply water to EWHX which then remove heat from the SDCHX and Essential Chillers.

54

How do we use Instrument Air in the Spray Pond?

A

For level detection and indication.

55
Q

What is the alternate makeup water supply for the Spray Ponds?

59
Q

How does Algae effect the operablity of the Essential Spray Pond?

A

Total Organic Carbon (TOC) Deemed that planktonic/sessile algae doesn’t effect SP, but we try to keep levels low. Blue-Blue/green is okay but dark green is an algae bloom.
