CW-Circulating Water System Flashcards

1
Q

What is the purpose of the Circulating Water system?

A

Provides Main Condenser withcooling water to remove the heat rejected from the turbine thermal cycle.
Utilize the cooling towers to dissipate that waste heat from condenser and PW system to the atmosphere.

Q

What are the 2 design basis for the CW system?

A
  • The circulating water receives the heat rejected by the turbine cycle.
  • The plant Cooling Towers dissipate waste heat from the turbine thermal cycle and from the PW system.

Q

What is the purpose of the Cooling Tower Makeup and Blowdown (TB)?

A
  • Supplies makeup water from the Reservoirs to the CW system to replace water losses due to evaporation, blowdown, and drift from the cooling towers.
  • Provides a blowdown path to the evaporation ponds, to allow constant blowdown for chemistry and level control in the canal.

16
Q

What water is used to clean the trash screens?

A

PW

17
Q

What air is used for the Cooling Tower Makeup Anti Cavitation Air Injection? And what does it prevent?

A

IA prevents the chattering in the canal level control valve

18
Q

What is the purpose of the CW Makeup and Blowdown systems?

A

CW removes heat from the main condenser to atm by evaporation aprox. 18000gpm. Because of this WRF requires constant makeup and blowdown to control chemistry.

19
Q

What is the purpose of the CW Canal Intake Structure?

A

It houses the CW pumps and provides the point of suction for the CW pumps

20
Q

What is the design of the CW Canal and Intake Structure?

A

There are redundant filters to capture large debris/trash. If level d/p across screen is unevel the screen is washed down.
Canal level auto maintained at 23’ by 1/2 level control valves. If not working WRF will manually maintain.

21
Q

What is the design makeup rate to the CW system?

A

About 19600 gpm. (This compensates for an evap rate of about 18300 gpm and a blowdown rate of 1300 gpm.)

22
Q

What is the purpose of the Circulating Water Pumps?

A

Circulate water through the CW system
Provide cooling water 560,000 gpm combined to the accomodate heat rejection rate of main condenser.

23
Q

What is the design of the CW pumps?

A

Four- 25% cap 143,000 gpm pumps
Powered by NA 13.8kV

24
Q

What cools the CW pump motor lube oil coolers?

A

TC-Turbine Cooling Water

25
Q

What is the normal operation of the CW pumps?

A

All four CW pumps are operating.
