Define the term culture
The ideas, customs, and social behaviour of a particular people or society.
Define the term society
the aggregate of people living together in a more or less ordered community.
Define the term social institution
Group of people with a common purpose. Social institutions include:
- Family
- Education
- Government
- Religion
Define the term socialisation
The process by which someone learns society’s norms and values.
Identify and explain two types of socialisation
Primary socialisation – learning norms and values of society from family
Secondary socialisation – learning norms and values of society from education, religion etc.)
Define social control
Social control is the active or passive process of a group/society regulating itself based on its norms, values and customs.

National identity is defined as ‘a sense of a nation as a cohesive whole and represented by distinctive traditions, culture, and language’.
