A
Sponsorship involves providing resources to a team or athlete in exchange for exposure/ advertising to increase sales

Sponsorship on clothing/shoes
A
Giving an athlete clothing or shoes to wear during performances- will allow athlete to perform at a higher standard

A
Giving an athlete equipment to use during performance- using better equipment will allow athlete to develop higher skill level

A
Proving money to build facilities/ advertising at a ground- improved facilities mean athlete can train more often or at a higher level improving fitness

Advantages of sponsorship
A
- Increases money for athlete/ sport which should mean an increase in performance due to more time to train, better coaches ect
- New technology advanced kit and equipment could be provided which increase fitness + skills
- Brand is associated with success if team win

Disadvantages of sponsorship
A
- A run of poor results may lead to a loss of sponsorship therefore income- could lead a performer to take drugs to maintain sponsorship
- Acts of direct aggression or cheating may put sponsors off
- Brand could be associated with negative behaviour e.g. poor performance
