What are the 4 types of guidance
Visual, verbal, mechanical, manual
Define visual guidance
Guidance that you can see/ watching something ( demonstration)
Advantages if visual guidance
Its useful for beginners so they can form a mental image of the skill to understand what to do
Disadvantages of visual guidance
Demonstration must be accurate as incorrect can lead to bad technique
Define verbal guidance
Guidance provided by someone talking/ speaking to you
Advantages of verbal guidance
Helps to ensure selective attention takes place , questioning can engage athlete and make them think about their performance
Disadvantages of verbal guidance
Must be clear and concise/ can be boring or time consuming
Define manual guidance
Physically moving the learner through the correct movement
Advantages of manual guidance
Allows the learner to experience how the skill should feel, increases safety when performing , increases confidence
Disadvantages for manual guidance
Can lead to false sense of kinaesthetic feel, performer may become dependent of support
Define mechanical guidance
Using mechanical aids/ equipment to help support the learner and shape the skill
Advantages of mechanical guidance
Allows the learner to experience how skills should feel, increase safety and confidence
Disadvantages of mechanical guidance
Can lead to false sense of kinaesthetic feel, performer may become dependant on support
Define information overload
Taking in too much information at once so cannot process/ concentrate on relevant information
