  1. VOIDS- Gas filled areas inside the metal part
  2. INCLUSIONS- SAND and SLAG mix with the molten metal in the cavity
  3. SURFACE DEFECTS- BLOW,SCAR,BLISTER, SCAB
  4. WASH(or CUT)- extra metal being present on the final part
  5. MISRUN- metal cools and solidifies before filling the mold cavity
