Q

How is Malt whisky produced?

A

*Barley is malted by steeping it in water, and then spreading it out on a concrete floor in a warm atmosphere.

*The grains germinate, converting the starch into sugar and germination is stopped by heating the grains over a peat fire, and peat smoke adds to the flavor of the Scotch.

*The malt is cracked, added to a boiling water in a mush tun, and sugar and flavors are extracted.
The liquid (wort) then is fermented with addition of yeast and twice distilled in a pot still.
