What you know about Vodka?
*Distilled in a continuous still producing a colorless neutral spirit.
*Best Vodka is produced from rye, molasses or other grains.
How Whisky, Whiskey, Rye, & Bourbon are produced?
*By distilling the fermented wash (wart) which is made from unmalted barley, malted barley, maize, rye and water.
What are the 5 Regions that Scotch malt whisky may be produced?

How is Malt whisky produced?
*Barley is malted by steeping it in water, and then spreading it out on a concrete floor in a warm atmosphere.
*The grains germinate, converting the starch into sugar and germination is stopped by heating the grains over a peat fire, and peat smoke adds to the flavor of the Scotch.
*The malt is cracked, added to a boiling water in a mush tun, and sugar and flavors are extracted.
The liquid (wort) then is fermented with addition of yeast and twice distilled in a pot still.
What is the ageing requirements for Scotch whisky?
*Must be matured in Scotland in cask for min of 3 years by low.
Describe Irish Whiskey production?
*Made in Ireland from malted & unmalted barley and some grain.
*The germination is stopped by heating the grains in a closed kiln rather than on a peat fire.

Describe American rye whiskey?
*Distilled from a wash containing a min of 51% rye. in a continuous still and aged for a min of 2 years (usually 4) in new charred oak barrels.
