How are spirits produced?
*By distillation of:
*fruits
*plants
*sugar cane
*vegetables
How are Liqueurs produced?
*By distillation of a fruit itself, or
* By blending herbs, spices and other flavorings with neutral spirit.
Describe how the Pot still works?
*A fermented liqueur is added into closed vessel and heated.
*Alcohol boils at 78C and will vaporize before the water.
*The firs vapors known as ‘heads’ and last known as tails are not used.
*Producing complex flavors and used for ‘fine spirits” which are double or triple distilled.
Describe how the Continuous still works?
*It have 2 tall columns.
*The ‘analyser’ where the wash is heated and vaporized.
*The ‘rectifier’ where the vapours are condensed.
What are the traditional botanicals flavorings for Gin?
*juniper berries
*coriander
*angelica root
*orange/lemon peel
What is a Gin spirit?
*White spirit produced by distilling a wash made from fermented:
*grain
*malted barley
*maize
*rye
What you know about Plymouth Gin?
*Plymouth Gin=crisp & aromatic, and the correct gin to use for Pink Gin which is a mixture of little angostura bitter & Plymouth Gin, served with a iced cold water.
What you know about Sloe Gin?
*Classified as a liqueur as it is a sweetened flavored spirit.
What you know about Old Tom Gin?
*Softer and less dry than London Dry Gin.
What you know about Dutch Gin or Genever Gin?
*Old Genever= produced from malted barley, wheat, corn & rye and is aged before sale.
*Young Genever= produced mainly from grain and is best drunk neat.
