Speed, Acceleration, Velocity, Distance & Displacement Flashcards
What is distance?
The distance travelled from start to finish
What is displacement?
The difference between the initial position and the final position of an object
What is angular distance?
Is the total of all angular changes that result from an object or body part angle between the starting and finishing position
What is angular displacement?
Is the difference in degrees between the object or body part’s initial and final positions.
It is measured by the smaller of the two angles.
What is speed?
The rate of change in distance
Speed = Distance / Time
What is velocity?
The rate of change of displacement
Velocity = Displacement / Time
What is angular speed?
Refers to the angular distance covered divided by the time taken
What is angular velocity?
Is the rate of change of the angular displacement a body over time
What is acceleration?
Is the rate of change of velocity?
Acceleration = Change in velocity (final - initial) / Time
At constant velocity there is 0 acceleration
What is positive acceleration?
When velocity increases over time, acceleration is positive, that is, it speeds up
What is zero acceleration?
When there is no change in velocity, velocity is constant.
However zero acceleration doesn’t mean that the body isn’t moving
What is negative acceleration?
When the final velocity is less than the initial, acceleration is negative, that is, it slows down
