Fatigue Flashcards
Definition: Active Recovery
Exercising at a low intesisty in order to all muscles to recover from high intensity activity
Definition: Central Fatigue
Fatigue that occurs when muscular function is decreased as a result of central nervous system impairment
Definition: Carbohydrate Loading
The practice of increasing CHO sotres within the body by increasing CHO intake and tapering training in the time leading up to a competition (up to 10 days)
Definition: Glycogen Sparing
The ability to use more fats as energy earlier during endurance performances, instead of carbs
Definition: Hydrogen Ions (H+)
Metabloic by-products that result when lactate acid is broken down into lactate and H+ when insufficient oxygen is available
What are the types of fuel depletion?
- Glycogen depletion
- PC depletion
Definition: Glycogen Depletion
When almost all glycogen stores have depleted (around 2 hours of continuous activity), described as hitting the wall
Definition: PC Depletion
When Pc stores deplete (up to first 10 seconds of high intensity activity)
Definition: Thermoregulartory Fatigue
Fatugue caused by an increase or decrease in the body’s core temperature.
Definition: Accumulation of Metabolic by-products
Fatigue caused the accumulation of metabolic by-products when using the anaerobic glycolysis system (H+ and lactate)
