What are capillary (strawberry) hemangiomas, when what is their natural course? In whom are they more common in?
- Bright or dark red raised papule that is a concentration of immature blood vessels
- Develop in the first few months, grow, then regress by about 9 yo
- More common in premature girls
What is dermal melanocytosis, and what is the natural history? In whom are these more common?
-well-demarcated areas of pigmentation may appear over the
buttocks, back, and other parts of the body
-Disappear in the first year
-Everyone except white, blue eyed babes
What is the most common vascular malformation in neonates?
Salmon patches
What are salmon patches? Where are they found, and what is their natural history?
- Pink-red patches on the neck, face, or upper lip
- Disappear completely
What is metatarsus adductus? Treatment?
- a condition which causes the toes to point inward
- Usually self limited, but some need surgery
Is metatarsus adductus more common in boys or girls? Firstborn or later born? Is it usually unilateral, or bilateral?
- Occurs equally in males and females
- 50% bilateral
- Firstborn more often affected
What is Talipes Equinovarus? Prognosis?
- Internal rotation of the entire lower leg, caused by genetics or in utero positioning
- With treatment, good outcome
