- inspect for obvious findings
- Palpate anterior and posterior fontanelles

- Observe red reflex

Patency
What are the three things that should be done at the mouth?
- Palate
- Tongue and gums

What are the two things that should be observed at the neck?
- Masses or thyromegaly
- Along clavicles
Lungs/chest wall x4.
- RR
- Shape of chest wall
- Signs of respiratory distress
- Auscultate anterior and posterior
Heart x4
- Palpate for precordial activity
- Femoral pulses
- Rate and rhythm
- Auscultate
Abdomen x 5.
- Inspect shape
- Palpate liver
- Palpate kidneys bimanual
- Inspect umbilicus
- BS
GU (male/female)?
- Palpate testes
- Ensure labia majora are bigger than minora
Anus?
Inspect for placement and patency
Hip exam?
Barlow, the ortolani
How do you perform the Barlow maneuver?
Adduct hip 5-10 degrees and push posteriorly
How do you perform the Ortolani exam?
Abduct hip while lifting leg anteriorly
Extremities x2
