Specialised Cells Flashcards
Palisade Mesophyll Cells structure
Found in leaves
Regular box shaped cells that contain chloroplast
Palisade Mesophyll Cells function
Chloroplast photosynthesise
Chloroplast move around cytoplasm to maximise amount of light absorbed
Root Hair Cell structure
Found at plant roots near tip
Long hair-like extensions called root hairs
Root Hair Cell function
Long hair-like extensions increase surface area of cell maximising movement of water and minerals from soil into plant root
Sperm Cell structure
Male gametes in animals
tails like structures call undulipodium to move
Lots of mitochondria to supply energy to move
head made of acrosome
Sperm Cell function
Fertilisation. Deliver genetic info to egg cell (female gamete)
head made of acrosome which contain digestive enzymes
Released when sperm meet egg to penetrate through protective layer
Egg Cell
Female gamete in animals
Contains nucleus. Has genetic material
Corona radiata supply proteins needed by fertilised egg cells
Red Blood Cell structure
Bi-concave shape, increase area volume ratio of RBC
Flexible so squeeze through narrow blood capillaries
Red Blood Cell function
Transport O2 around body
With mammals dont have nucleus or other organelles. Increase space for haemoglobin molecules to carry O2
What is neutrophils
type of white blood cell
Neutrophils structure
Multi-lobed nuclei, which enables them to squeeze through small gaps when travelling through site of infection
Neutrophils function
phagocytes
