Describe in general two types of motivation
There are two different types of motivation: Integrative and Instrumental. On the whole, integrative motivation can be represented by your desire to integrate yourself with an activity you are going to take up. In linguistic terms, this type of motivation shows your appetite to comprehend culture, history, traditions and language. As concerns instrumental one, it is suitable for particular aims.
Pros of instrumental motivation
On the other hand, instrumental motivation also has its pros. It is organized, predictable and easy to control.
Cons of instrumental motivation
But instrumental motivation is extrinsic, impersonal and selfish.
What fuels the instrumental motivation
It is usually motivated by a career. A lot of people study foreign languages to fortify their CV. In this case, the goal is often based on a credential.
