Spaces within body Flashcards
What are the boundaries of the quadrangular space?
Superior – inferior margin of teres minor.
Lateral – surgical neck of the humerus.
Medial – long head of triceps brachii.
Inferior – superior aspect of teres major.
What are the contents of the quadrangular space?
Axillary nerve
Posterior circumflex humeral artery
What are the boundaries of the triangular interval?
Superior – Inferior border of the teres major.
Lateral – Shaft of the humerus and lateral head of the triceps brachii.
Medial – Lateral border of the long head of the triceps brachii.
What are the contents of the triangular interval?
Radial nerve
Profunda brachii artery
What are the boundaries of the triangular space?
Lateral – medial margin of the long head of the triceps brachii.
Inferior – superior margin of the teres major.
Superior – inferior border of the teres minor (or subscapularis).
What are the contents of the triangular space?
Circumflex scapular artery and vein.
What are the boundaries of the femoral triangle?
Roof – fascia lata.
Floor – pectineus, iliopsoas, and adductor longus muscles.
Superior border – inguinal ligament (a ligament that runs from the anterior superior iliac spine to the pubic tubercle).
Lateral border – medial border of the sartorius muscle.
Medial border – medial border of the adductor longus muscle. The rest of this muscle forms part of the floor of the triangle.
What are the contents of the femoral triangle?
Femoral nerve
Femoral artery
Femoral vein
Femoral canal
What are the boundaries of the femoral canal?
Medial border – lacunar ligament.
Lateral border – femoral vein.
Anterior border – inguinal ligament.
Posterior border – pectineal ligament, superior ramus of the pubic bone, and the pectineus muscle
What are the contents of the femoral canal?
Lymphatic vessels
Deep lymph node - lacunar node
Loose connective tissue
What are the boundaries of the adductor canal?
Anteromedial – Sartorius.
Lateral – Vastus medialis.
Posterior – Adductor longus and adductor magnus.
What are the contents of the adductor canal?
Femoral artery
Femoral vein (posterior to the artery)
Nerve to the vastus medialis and the saphenous nerve – the largest cutaneous branch of the femoral nerve.
What are the boundaries of the popliteal fossa?
Superomedial – semimembranosus.
Superolateral – biceps femoris.
Inferomedial – medial head of the gastrocnemius.
Inferolateral – lateral head of the gastrocnemius and plantaris.
What are the contents of the popliteal fossa?
Popliteal artery
Popliteal vein
Tibial nerve
Common peroneal nerve
What are the boundaries of Calot’s triangle?
Medial – common hepatic duct.
Inferior – cystic duct.
Superior – inferior surface of the liver.
