23
Q

If silica rates are high in the Spray Ponds, what can be used for chemistry control?

A

Feed and Bleed – a line from the discharge of the Spray Pond Filter Pump sends water from the Spray Pond to the CW intake canal at a flow rate directed by Chemistry

24
Q

What type of filter is the Spray Pond Filter?

A

Gravity type sand filters

25
Q

What is the capacity of each Spray Pond Filter?

A

600 gpm

26
Q

How are backwashes performed on the Spray Pond Filters?

A

Manually – Backwash valve opens and water from the upper area flows, by gravity and eduction, backward through the sand, removing accumulated debris out through the backwash valve to the backwash sump

27
Q

What provides power to the SP Backwash Sump Pump? Capacity?

A

NH

1000 gpm

28
Q

When would the SP Backwash Sump Pump auto start?

A

With local control switch in AUTO, they will automatically start upon a receipt of a backwash sump high level signal and automatically stop upon receipt of a low level signal.

29
Q

What electrical protection is provided for the SP Backwash Sump Pump?

A

Overcurrent

30
Q

What is the purpose of the SP Corrosion Test Racks?

A

Installed to monitor the corrosive effect of the Spray Pond water on piping and heat exchanger

31
Q

Where are the SP Corrosion Test Racks located?

A

in each spray pond pump house

32
Q

What is the normal position of the Spray Pond Crosstie valves? Why?

A

Normally locked closed to ensure the two ponds remain independent of each other

33
Q

If there is a LOCA and makeup is lost to the Spray Ponds, what two actions must be taken and how long do I have to complete them?

A

If two trains of shutdown cooling are in service, then one train must be shutdown

At least one of the spray ponds crosstie valves must be open

24 hours

34
Q

What effect would a loss of Spray Pond system have on the operation of the plant?

A

If one or both trains becomes inoperable, plant shutdown would be required

If the associated DG is running, it would overheat so it would need to be shutdown

Impacts the operation of the Shutdown Cooling system, so actions are required to restore core cooling

35
Q

What is the purpose of the Spray Pond Chemical Addition system?

A

To maintain our Ultimate Heat Sink chemistry within specified parameters in order to optimize the heat transfer surfaces of the DG coolers and the EW heat exchangers

36
