OS- Lube Oil Purification, Storage, and Transfer COPY Flashcards
What is the purpose of the OS system?
Remove contaminants from the Main Turbine Lube Oil and Feedwater Pump Turbine Lube oil to maintain the required lube oil quality
Provides lube oil storage for makeup and storage during outages
Transfers/recirculates lube oil from the storage tanks to the Main Turbine Lube Oil Reservoir and Feedwater Pump Turbine Lube Oil Reservoirs and between the reservoirs and the lube oil centrifuge or conditioner
What is the capacity of the OS Lube Oil storage tanks? Location? What surrounds the tanks to contain an oil leak?
20,000 gallons
North yard
concrete berm
What does Domestic Water system provide for OS?
Seal water to the OS system Feedwater Pump Turbine Lube Oil Centrifuge through a priming funnel
What powers the OS system centrifuge, conditioner and LO Transfer Pump?
NH
What does IA do for the OS system?
Provides air to the OSHA cover interlock control panel pressure instruments
Both storage tanks are maintained in a “clean” condition. Which OS storage tank can I send “dirty” oil to if necessary?
‘B’ Lube Oil Storage Tank
How are the OS Storage Tanks sized?
To hold the entire contents of both lube oil subsystems plus a contingency for oil in the process piping
Where is the OS Lube Oil Transfer Pump located?
Next to the Lube Oil storage tanks in the north yard
What type of pump is the OS Lube Oil Transfer Pump? What is upstream of the pump? What powers it?
Rotary gear
suction strainer
NH
How is the OS Lube Oil Transfer pump operated? What is its purpose?
Manually from a local hand switch
to move oil to/from the storage tanks to the reservoirs or out of the system to a waste truck for removal
What is the purpose of the Main Turbine Lube Oil Conditioner?
Removes water and particulates form the Main Turbine Lube Oil system by filtering action
At what rate can main turbine lube oil conditioner purify the Lube Oil?
30 gal/min or about 20% per hour of Main Turbine Lube Oil normal operating capacity (11,000 gallons)
Concerning the Main Lube Oil conditioner, which filter has a sight glass?
Filter #2 (where you can see the oil/water interface)
At what rate is the FWPT Centrifuge capable of purifying oil?
5 gpm which is equivalent to approximately 15% per hour of the combined operating capacity of the two lube oil reservoirs (about 2000 gallons)
What would cause the MFPT lube oil centrifuge package alarm bell to sound?
If any of the following occur:
Bowl loses its seal, (this causes a large flow of liquid to occur through the heavy phase outlet)
Low flow from heater
High vibration is sensed
Low air pressure
