QB/QD- Essential/Emergency Lighting Flashcards

1
Q

What is the purpose of the Emergency Lighting (QD) system?

A

provides light in the control room on a loss of Essential lighting for a minimum period of 8 hours

Provide sufficient illumination for the operator to perform the required safe shutdown actions in the event of a loss of essential power in the areas where operator local manual actions are required for safe shutdown in the event of fire in the control room for a minimum of 8 hours

Provide sufficient illumination in all plant areas and illuminate the EXIT signs to support the safe egress of personnel for a minimum period of 90 minutes

Q

What happens if I lose power to essential FP panels QBN-D81 and QBN-D84? Where are these panels powered from?

A

Will activate the Control Room Emergency Lighting UPS system and rechargeable emergency light fixtures in the Control Building 100’ and 140’ levels

Q

Where are the QB 480V/120V Voltage Regulators located? What purpose do they serve?

A

Class A and B DC Equipment Rooms on the 100’ level of the Control Building

step down voltage, they are short circuit protected which prevents secondary side issues traveling to the primary side and vice versa, also an isolating transformer for class primary side and non-class secondary side

Q

What is the purpose of the QB (essential lighting) system?

A

lights up control room and remote shutdown panel on a loss of QA (normal lighting)

lights up areas to allow for safe access throughout the plant on a loss of the QA (normal lighting) system

charges QD (emergency lighting) UPS batteries, battery packs in the 8hr emergency light fixtures and 90 minute emergency light fixtures

lights up safe shutdown equipment for local manual operation during a fire

Q

What is the purpose of the essential lighting distribution panel?

A

main essential lighting panels, QBN-D90 and D91, provide power to distribution panels through circuit breakers and transformers

16
Q

Where are QBN-D90 and -D91 powered from?

A

PGA and PGB SIAS load shed panels

17
Q

Do the QD and QB systems trade power back and forth?

A

QD receives power normally from QB, but when QB is lost, QD powers QB fixtures and exit signs

18
Q

What’s my name, bitch?

A

Sweet-T

19
Q

Where are the emergency lighting UPS systems located?

A

ZA (aux. building)

ZJ (control building)

20
Q

What the hell does HJ (control building HVAC) have to do with Emergency lighting?

A

provides exhaust fans to the battery rooms housing control room emergency lighting UPS batteries

21
Q

What is the purpose of the QDN-N03 and N09 UPS units? What happens when QB power returns?

A

provide backup power for safe shutdown area lighting for 8 hours upon a loss of the QB (essential lighting) system

UPS goes into equalizing mode to charge the QD batteries

22
Q

What is the purpose of the rechargeable battery pack emergency light fixtures?

A

provide the minimum amount of the illumination required in the immediate vicinity for operation of the equipment of safe movement of operators for a minimum period of 8 hrs duration. (not normally light up)

On loss of AC power the control circuit turns “on” automatically connecting the battery to energize the sealed beam lights to illuminate the immediate area

there are also 90 minute light fixtures that work the same way

23
Q

How long will rechargeable exit signs stay light up after a loss of normal power? Where are they normally powered from?

A

90 minutes

normal and essential lighting systems

24
Q

During normal operation, the QB and QD lighting systems are on float or equalize mode?

A

float

25
Q

Concerning the control room, how long after essential lighting is lost will the emergency lighting come on?

A

6 cycles (100 milliseconds)
