SC- Condensate Demins Flashcards
The CD demins are capable of handling what severity of a condenser leak and for how long?
1 gpm on a continuous basis
What vessels are in service during full flow Condensate Demineralizer Operations?
> 80% power, Five CD Demin vessels in service with one vessel in standby and the Blowdown Demins bypassed
What vessels are in service during full bypass Condensate Demineralizer Operations?
All six CD Demineralizers are in standby and the Blowdown Demins are in service
Cation Resin removes what kind of ion?
Cations
OH-
Anion resin removes what kind of ion?
Anion
H+
What is Decontamination Factor in the CD demin system?
DF=Concentration in/ Concentration out
What is meant by the demineralizer resin being “spent” or “exhausted”?
The resin is saturated with impurities
What is meant by “throwing” ions in the CD demin system?
Further introduction of impurities into a saturated bed that may cause retained impurities to come off the resin
Basically the release of unwanted contaminants
In regards to the CD demin system, what is Affinity (selectivity coefficient)? What happens with a higher concentration of a weaker affinity ion?
Property of the resin that indicates its relative attractiveness for one ionic species over another
higher concentration weak affinity ions will be forced onto a resin, allowing resin to be regenerated
In regards to the flowpath of CD through the Demins, what is the approximate pressure of the fluid?
460 psig
How is a CD demin bed put into a standby condition?
Inlet valve open and outlet valve closed, system pressure at 460 psig
What would high D/P across a CD demin bed indicate?
Clogged resin trap
What would low D/P across a CD demin bed indicate?
Channeling through a resin bed
What is the purpose of the resin traps in the CD demin system?
To catch any resin that escapes from the service vessel resin screens before the resin makes it to the steam generators
How does CT interact with the CD Demin system?
CT pumps take suction on the CST and provide clean water for the CD demins for transferring, cleaning, and rinsing resin
The water is also used for acid mixing tee to dilute the acid before it is injected into the Cation vessel
What system provides air for transfer, cleaning, and air mixing the resin in the CD demin system?
Service Air
What system provides the motive air for the air operated CD demin valves?
Instrument Air
What cools the CD demins individual sample coolers?
Normal Chilled Water
We no longer sample the combined effluent even though the cooler still exists
What system provides the chemical needed for Cation resin regeneration in the CD demin system and what chemical is used?
Chlorine Injection
Sulfuric Acid
What is used to regenerate CD demin anion resin and where does it come from?
Chemical production system (CC) from WRF provides 8% Sodium Hydroxide (Caustic)
What does NH do for the CD demin system?
Provide power for:
- regenerant water pumps and their motor space heaters
- caustic pumps
- acid pumps
- caustic day tank heaters
Power is also supplied to the CD demin Programmable Logic Controller
Of the 300 cubic feet of resin in the service vessels, how much of it is cation and anion resin?
200 cubic feet of cation resin
100 cubic feet of anion resin
Where are the CD demin service vessels located?
100’ Turbine building at the southeast corner
Where is the CD demin system Resin Service Hopper located?
140’ turbine building, directly above the Cation vessel
Where can the CD Demin outlet valves be controlled from?
Control Room (normally) and at the local control panel
What is the purpose of the four white indicating lights next to the Control room demin switches?
Indicate when the associated vessel is in service, in standby, undergoing resin transfer, or undergoing resin rinse
How many switches are at the local panel for each CD demin vessel? What is the interlock between the selector switch and the specific service vessel switches?
Six switches
There is a selector switch to determine which vessel’s switches are going to be operated
none of the service vessel switches will work other than the selected vessels switches
Why is a slow pressurization of a CD demin service vessel necessary?
Ensures the resin bed is not displaced by the high pressure of the condensate header should the inlet valve suddenly open
How is the CD demin system designed to prevent a quick pressurization? At what pressure will the inlet valve open?
When the inlet valve is taken to the open position, a bypass valve around the inlet valve opens
A D/P switch measures D/P across the inlet valve and when it reaches 15 psi, the inlet valve opens and the bypass valve closes
If the switch is not held in the open position until the cycle is complete, the bypass valve will go closed
15 psi
How many different counters are utilized on the CD demin service vessels and what do they do?
Two different counters to measure throughput
one is a total gallons counter and the other is a gallons remaining counter
In regards to the six indicating lights, what do the red lights mean?
Indicate that the vessel is in a rinse, a resin transfer, or CRUD removal operation
What color light indicates a CD demin vessel is in standby?
White light
