SP: Experiments Flashcards
Deindividuation makes people act in accordance with accessible group norms
mensen in nurse outfit: gaven lagere schokken dan mensen in klanlike outfit.
individuation (geen face concealing, gewoon gezicht zien) -> meer extreme (dus nurses nog lagere schokken, klanlike juist nog hogere schokken))
dus deindividuation does not neccessarily increase antisocial behaviour, but it makes people more likely to follow currently salient norms.
overeenkomst group polarization and deindividuation
hoe meer mensen zich zien in terms of their group membership, hoe meer likely dat ze deze behaviours en normen aannemen.
deindividuation leidt dus tot meer…
normative behaviour, rather than antisocial behaviour
interplay tussen injunctive en descriptive norms
To tackle such questions, researchers gave students both injunctive and descriptive
norm information regarding energy conservation (Smith and others, 2012). Specifically,
the students learned that most other students (1) approved of and enacted energy
conservation; (2) approved of, but did not enact, energy conservation; (3) disapproved
of, but enacted, energy conservation; or (4) disapproved of, and did not enact, energy
conservation. Only when both injunctive and descriptive norms were favorable—that
is, when students approved of and enacted energy conservation —did participants report
strong intentions to conserve energy themselves. This means that when injunctive and
descriptive norms mismatched, behavioral intentions were as low as they were when
there was no support from either type of norm.
even when you have payed back the favor, dus geen reciprocation meer nodig….
gingen de mensen alsnog een andere request accepteren.
