on 26 June the government dropped the law about Afrikaans in schools
shows the children had won

many left SA to join MK in Zambia and Tanzania
Botha and constitutional change
introduced a three house parliament - Indians, Coloureds and Whites
the proportion of whites dominated so Indians and Coloureds didn’t have a vote in foreign affairs
1984-6
more than 3000 deaths, 30,000 detentions and great damage to property as well as SA image abroad
caused by Botha’s policies
ANC
had hoped to make SA ungovernable
instead a state of emergency was declared, involving tight media control and political repression
uprisings of 1984-6
precipitated a financial crisis
had difficulty attracting foreign capital and the currency collapsed
the economy showed that
government repression couldn’t last indefinitely
