What Certificates are required under SOLAS?
Cargo Safety Construction Certificate Cargo Safety Equipment Certificate Cargo Safety Radio Cert Passenger Ship Safety Cert Minimum Safe Manning Document ISM Certs - SMC and DoC CSR ISSC
What is attached to PSSC and what info does it contain?
Form P. - “Record of Equipment”
- Ship Particulars
- Details of LSA (Max number of Persons Carried)
- Details of Radio Equipment
- Details to ensure availability of radio facilities.
- List of Navigation Equipment
Max validity of PSSC?
Renewed each year -12 month validity. Can be renewed within 3 months before. Does not affect anniversary date.
How often are surveys carried out to Certificates?
For Annual, Intermediate and Periodical survey there is a 6 month window. Within 3 months before or after the anniversary date.
For Renewal survey only 3 months before. An extension may be given by flag to allow completion of voyage of up to 3 months.
The only exception is the DoC this must be issued 3 months before its expiry. (5 yearly)
What does the Cargo Ship Safety Construction Cert, cerify?
Shows compliance with Chapter 2 of SOLAS
What is surveyed in a CSSC survey?
Hull, Machiner and electrical installations.
Structure
Boilers
Machinery and aux Machinery
In case of Tankers - Pump rooms and cargo lines.
What is included in UW inspections for CSSCS
Inspection of the Ships Shell Inspect Plugs for damage. Inspect Steel Dimensions and Scantlings Keel and Bilge Keel Sea Chest Rudder and propeller shaft Condition of Plugs
How often are Hull Surveys carried out?
2 inspections out of the water in 5 years. Interval not to exceed 36 months.
Passenger ships hulls shall be inspected annually. May be inspected in water.
What covers the requirement for an Anchor?
Not required under SOLAS - Class and Class Rules
What is the class requirement for Anchors
At least 2 connected by chain.
And a spare (but fairly liberal towards where this can be stored)
What is the Holding Power of a HHP Anchor
Twice the holding power of a Standard Stockless Anchor
Why do ships have anchors?
For any number of reasons most obvious being.. awaiting entry into a port.
What is the REG Yacht Code Made up of?
REG Yacht Code is made up of PART A for yachts over 24m in length carrying not more that 12 passengers.
REG Yacht Code PART B is for yachts over 24m carrying more that 12 passengers but not more than 36.
It is in close compliance with the conventions on:
SOLAS
STCW
LOADLINE Convention.
What is the purpose of the REG Yacht Code?
To be in close complaint with the conventions. But has be modified to create an equivalent to ensure suitability on yachts.
Deficiencies in certain areas will be met with over increased requirements in certain areas to make an equivalent.
