Attitude
Is a set of beliefs and feelings
Mere exposure effect
States that the more one os exposed to something,the more one will come to like it.
Central route
The central route to persuasion involves deeply processing the content of the message.
The peripheral route
Involves the other aspects of the message including the characteristics of the person imparting the message
Cognitive dissonance theory
Based on the idea that people are motivated to have consistent attitudes and behaviors. When they dont,they experience unpleasant mental tension or dissonace
Norms of reciprocity
People think that because someone does something nice for them they have do the same in return.
Attribution theory
Tries to explain how people determine the cause of what they deserve
Dispositional attribution
assigns the cause of behavior to some internal characteristic of a person rather than to outside forces.
Fundamental-attribution error
When looking at the behaviors of others,people tend to overestimate the importance of dispositional factors and underestimate the role of situational factors
False-consensus effect
The tendency to overestimate the number of people who agree with them
Ethnocentrism
The beliefs that ones culture is superior to others.
In group bias
The tendency to favor ones own group over others
Superordinate goal
If groups are made to work toward a goal that benefits all and necessitates the participation of all
Group polarization
The tendency of a group to make more extreme decisions that the group members would make individually
