Learning Flashcards
Classical conditioning
Ivan Pavlov. People and animals can learn to associate neutral stimuli with stimuli that produce reflexive ,involuntary responses and will learn to respond similarly to the new stimulus as they did to the old one.
Unconditioned stimulus
Something that elicits a natural, reflexive response.
Unconditioned respones
Is the automatic response to a stimulus.
Acquisition
he attainment by an individual of new behavior, information, or skills or the process by which this occurs
Little Albert
John Watson and Rosalie Rayner. Conditioned a boy to be afraid of a white rat
Aversive conditioning
used to help a person give up a behavior or habit by having them associate it with something unpleasant.
Eg. putting bitter nail to stop biting nails
Operant conditioning
Learning based on the association of consequences with one’s behavior.
Law of affect
States that if the consequences of a behavior are pleasant, the stimulus response connection will be strengthened and the likelihood of the behavior will increase
Positive reinforcement
Refers to adding something pleasant.
Negative reinforcement
Refers to the removal of something unpleasant
Positive punishment
The addition of something unpleasant
Negative punishment
the removal of something pleasant
Observational learning
Studied a lot by Albert Bandura. Bobo doll
Modeling
Has two components:
Observation and imitation
Insight learning
Wolfgang Kohler, chimpanzee experiment. When one suddenly realizes how to solve a problem.
