Drive reduction theory
A need is one of our requirements for survival. A drive is our impulse to act in a way that satisfies this need.
Arousal theory
States that we seek an optimum level of arousal or excitement
Incentive theory
Behavior is NOT pushed by a need ,it is pulled by a desire.
Maslows hierarchy of needs
Predicts which needs we will be motivated to satisfy first.
Self actualization
A need to fulfill our unique potential as a person.
Maslows hierarchy of needs in this order
Physiological needs,safety needs ,belongingness and love needs ,esteem needs,and lastly self actualization needs.
Lateral hypothalamus
When stimulated causes the animal to eat. Destruction of the area destroys hunger
Ventromedial hypothalamus
Causes the animal to stop eating when its stimulated. If this area is destroyed the animal will continually eat.

Approach-approach conflict
When you must choose between two desirable outcomes
Avoidance-avoidance conflict
When you must choose between to unattractive outcomes
James-Lange theory
suggests that physical changes in the body happen first, which then leads to the experience of emotion.
Cannon-bard theory
That biological change and and the cognitive awareness of the emotional occur simultaneously.
