Q

How is blood doping carried out

A

Blood is taken 3-4 weeks before event when haemoglobin levels are high

Freeze the blood to maintain high haemoglobin levels

One or two days before the event the blood is put back into the performer through blood transfusion

This will increase red blood cells in body to carry more oxygen

This allows performer aerobic capacity to increase to perform longer without fatigue
