Soc20 (levers) Flashcards
1
Q
Way to remember
A
FLE123
2
Q
First Class + example
A
- fulcrum in the middle between load and effort
Eg. Where muscles (effort) meet (fulcrum) the cranium (load)
3
Q
Second Class + example
A
- where the load is the middle
Eg. The ball off the foot (fulcrum) with the heel (load) and the effort (gastrocnemius) for plantar flexion
4
Q
Third Class
A
- effort in the middle
Eg. Bicep curl where the weight (load) is being lifted by the bicep muscles (effort) with the fulcrum at the elbow
5
Q
How these apply to the body (distance)
A
For first and second class:
Small effort = large load
For third class Large effort= small load due to the distance from fulcrum to load
6
Q
Lever Definition
A
- system of muscles working together to help you move
- muscles pull on bones for movement
7
Q
How does a lever work?
A
- rotates around the axis
- fulcrum is where it rotates
- load is the force applied
- effort is the force from your muscles
