Respiration
Movement of air from outside the body into cells
Diaphragm
Primary muscle that is a dome shaped sheet and is used for inhaling and exhaling
Trachae
Tube that takes air into the chest
Bronchus
Tube where air passes from trachea to lungs
Bronchioles
Small branch of the bronchus
Alveoli
Tiny sacs where gaseous exchange occurs
Haemoglobin
Binds blood and oxygen in red blood cells
Gaseous exchange
Delivery of oxygen to the blood stream and the removal of carbon dioxide
Oxygen Debt
Oxygen needed to brake lactic acid after exercise
Anaerobic exercise
Exercise at a high level without oxygen
VO2 max
Volume of oxygen that an athlete can consume at max capacity
Vital Capacity
Greatest amount of air that can be passed in and out the lungs by most forceful inhaling and exhaling
Tidal Volume
Amount of air with each normal breathe at rest or during exercise
