Soc 25: Sports Physcology Flashcards
What are the three types of guidance and give a def
Visual guidance: giving you something to replicate e,g a demonstration or a video/photos has to be an accurate replication of skill
Verbal guidance: sometimes used before giving a demonstration but more often used at the same time as visual to back it up
Manual/mechanical guidance: When the coach is actually in contact with the learner as they perform e.g helping someone to do a drive in golf.
What are some advantages and disadvantages of the three types of guidance?
Visual: adv- learner knows what skill looks like and how it is performed. Dis- Wont be able to ask questions to clarify their understanding.
Verbal: adv- Coach can explain further detail or emphasise specific points. Dis- can be difficult for beginners to understand
Manual/mechanical: adv- coach can help performer to execute the skill, safely and successfully. Dis- this will not be possible for all sports.
What is intrinsic feedback?
Comes from the performer themselves as they think about how they feel they performed. Dis- novice performer may have little knowledge and may be less accurate.
What is extrinsic feedback?
Comes from an outside source e.g from a teacher/coach this sort of feedback is important for the performer as it will motivate them to improve.
What is concurrent feedback?
Given at the time of the performance e.g from the coach on the sideline during a match. Feedback can be acted on immediately.
What is terminal feedback?
Given at the end of a game or performance. Has benefit of being more reflective and giving an overview of the whole of the performance.
What is an open skill
