What are the 6 classifications of skills?
Open,closed,basic,complex,low organisation and high organisation
What is an open skill?
Player has to continually adapt to the situation
What is a closed skill?
Skills not affected by the environment
What is basic skill?
Player finds easy and needs little concentration to do
What is complex skill?
Needs player’s complete attention and concentration as it is technically difficult to perform
What is low organisation skill?
Has clear, simple phases or parts (set shot in bball)
What is high organisation skill?
Lot of complicated phases or parts (somersault in trampolining)
What are the 4 classifications of practice?
Massed , distributed, fixed, variable
What is massed practice?
Where skill is practiced until learned without taking a break - normally for athletes
What is distributed practice?
Where skill is practiced over several sessions or with rest breaks- normally for players with lower ability
What is fixed practice?
Where skill is practiced over and over again until perfected (free throw in bball)
What is variable practice?
Practicing skill in variety of different situations, so that it can be adapted to suit different competitive situations (weather conditions)
What are the 4 classifications of guidance?
Verbal, visual, manual, mechanical
What is visual guidance?

What is mechanical guidance?
Using equipment to help performer
What are the 4 classifications of feedback?
Intrinsic, extrinsic, concurrent, terminal
What is intrinsic feedback?
Comes from performer itself in how they think about how they performed or what contribution they made to team or game
What is extrinsic feedback?
Comes from coach, teammates, family itself. Motivates performer to improve and learn from practice
What is concurrent feedback?
Given at time of performance - coach on sideline during game - can be acted on immediately
What is terminal feedback?
Given at end of performance -benefit of being more reflective and overview of whole performance
Identify which is the more COMPLEX skill: dribbling in hockey or running in a marathon.
Dribbling in hockey, due to its high concentration required task
