Open skills
Open skills are seen in sports such as football and netball, situation is always changing. The player has to constantly adapt to the situation
Closed skills
Take place in stable, predictable environments and the player knows exactly what to do. The skills are not affected by the environment. (Set patterns)
Basic skills
Basic skills are ones that a player finds easy and requires very little concentration to do. Could be a chest pass in netball or short pass in football.
Complex skill
A complex skill requires the players complete concentration as it is technically difficult. Needs to be practiced a lot
Low organisation skill
Has a few simple phases. For example a set shot in basketball
High organisation skill
High organisation skill has a lot of complicated phases. For example a somersault in trampolining
Visual guidance
Giving demonstrations or showing videos. Also to reach certain standards. (Showing visual skills)
Advantages and disadvantages of visual guidance
Learner knows how to perform due to demonstration and how it looks.
Cant ask questions to clarify understanding
Verbal guidance
Helpful if clear. Often given before demonstration. Backs up visual and expresses key points.
Advantages and disadvantages of verbal guidance
Coach can explain in further detail (specific points)
Can be difficult for beginners to understand especially complicated skills
Manual/mechanical guidance
Coach is in contact with performer. For example when trampolining to help performer
Manual/mechanical guidance advantages and disadvantages
Coach can help performer do skill correctly
Not possible in some sports
