skill and acquisition- simple information processing model Flashcards
what are the 4 stages of the model
input
decision making
output
feedback
explain input
what are the 3 types of data received?
what happens when they receive all this data
data received from the environment
you receive visual data, auditory data and sensory data
the performer receives lots of data at once so they use selective attention and prioritise the main information
explain decision making
what types of memory are used?
this is when the performer has to make a decision on the movement/skill to perform using memory
they use their STM of the game and opponents and the LTM of their learned skills and tactics
explain output
muscles react to messages from the brain and carry out the decision
explain feedback
after skill is performed you receive feedback, feedback is either extrinsic or intrinsic
what’s limited channel capacity
the theory that our brain can process a certain amount of information at once, too much info causes an overload and performance suffers
what’s the single channel hypothesis
the theory that when receiving many stimuli the brain can only deal with 1 at a time leading to a single response
what’s multi channel hypothesis
our brain can process different types of information in different channels
