What is the muscle activation during the flexion momentum phase?
Tibialis anterior fires first followed by the gastroc and soleus
What are the critical events of the momentum transfer phase?
Center of mass moves forward and down
Ankle DF
Weight acceptance

Pelvis- anterior rotation
Hip- 120° flexion
Knee- 100° flexion

Increase activity of gastroc and soleus, decrease of Tibialis anterior
Peak activity of quad muscles
Glute max, biceps femoris, and semitendinosus kick on to help maintain control over feet

Weight acceptance
What are the quads, glute max, and hamstrings responsible for in the momentum transfer phase?
Bringing COM forward

Extension
Center of mass moves upward
Balance
What are the ROM requirements for the extension phase?
Pelvis- anterior rotation
Hip- 120° flexion, full extension
Knee- 100° flexion, full extension
Ankle- 5° DF
What muscles are active during the extension phase?
More activity in gastroc, soleus, glute max, and hamstrings
Less activity in Tibialis anterior and quads

Extension
Center of mass moves upward
Balance (ankle strategy)
What are the required ROM for the stabilization phase?
Pelvis- neutral
Hip- 120° flexion, full extension
Knee- 100° flexion, full extension
Ankle- 5° DF, 5° PF
